I am a Surrealist pianist. Surrealism is usually associated with poetry and
visual art, but its revolutionary and revelatory aesthetic has determined my
orientation toward making music. The juxtaposition of different elements,
the primacy of chance, and the driving force of subconscious imagery all
inform my playing. Although most of the music I listen to is from African
and Arabic sources, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Sun Ra, the Beatles, Max
Ernst, Franz Kafka, all of the Blues greats, and so many others made me who
I am as a musician.
Each tune is the soundtrack to a different dream.
Thanks to Kurt Bauer for his kindness and his magical technical expertise in making the abusive treatment of my Yamaha U1 piano sound like beautiful music.
Deep thanks to Paula and Quinn.
And thank you to the community of Denver artists for decades of support.
